My Education

I have been a midwife in my own practice, since 1997. I have been a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) since 2001 and I have been a licensed midwife in WI since 2007.

I received my training through a 3 ½ year apprenticeship with a senior midwife, and a clinical trip to Jamaica to work in a busy maternity hospital and a trip to Missouri, to work in a birth center. Each of those trips were about 8-10 days. I have also attended many midwifery conferences and workshops, I was a licensed EMT for 8 years, I taught Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth classes for 12 years and I also attended about 50 hospital births as a doula. I also have a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management. As a CPM, I am required to re- certify every 3 years with continuing education credits, and to re-certify my Neonatal Resuscitation and CPR every 2 years.

What I Believe

I work in partnership with the woman and her family. The woman controls her pregnancy and birth with in the bounds of normality. I accept that the mom is responsible for decisions which affect herself, her baby and family. I believe birth is a normal, physiologic function and a sacred family event. My role is to monitor your good health, offer pregnancy education to keep you healthy and help you facilitate the birth you desire, within the bounds of normality and safety.

Although I am continually improving my education and skills, you, as parents, must accept the responsibility for your health care and birth. I believe that parents, with accurate information, have the right to choose their care giver and place of birth. And that they are capable of making the best decision regarding the circumstances for the birth of their babies. I am not anti-doctor nor anti-hospital. I am thankful for wise, sensitive and skilled doctors to help us. I won’t hesitate to refer you to a doctor or suggest transport to the hospital for the safe passage of you and your baby through pregnancy and birth. Thankfully, that doesn’t happen very often. My transport rate is about 5%.

Becky's Story

"I will never have a baby another way! I am in love with the memories of my homebirth (and the beautiful baby that I had:-) and I am looking forward to having another homebirth someday. Vicki was an amazing support person and only jumped in when she had to, which made the birth about me and my family, and soooo amazing. "

I have been married for over 35 years and I have 3 grown daughters. They were all born in the hospital, I did not know about homebirth then. I did nurse them all, including my twins. I have 7 grandchildren, 5 of them I delivered. I enjoy gardening, animals, reading, travel, conferring with my sister-midwives on line and “catching” babies, of course. I am a Christian and believe that “children are a gift of the Lord. The fruit of the womb is a reward.” (Psalm 127:3) I am happy to work with families of other faiths, or no faith.
